What is the VAT Relief Scheme?
Individuals who are terminally ill, or chronically sick or disabled can claim back the VAT they have paid on shoes with extra wide width fittings. These width fittings are our 6E, 6V and 8E fittings.
You should only complete the declaration if you are ‘chronically sick or disabled’ and the footwear is for your own personal or domestic use. A family member or carer can complete this on your behalf if you wish.
Do I Qualify For the Scheme?
The VAT office defines a person is ‘chronically sick' or disabled if he, she, they are a person:
- with a physical or mental impairment that has a long-term effect on your ability to carry out everyday activities
- with a medical condition that doctors treat as a chronic sickness (like diabetes for example)
It does not include an elderly person who is not disabled or chronically sick, or any person who is only temporarily disabled or incapacitated, such as with a broken limb. Nor would it include a person with an extremely wide foot who has no medical conditions or physical impairments.
